The Setup:
First up was the mockup. I knew that I wanted to construct my own set for this video, and with PVC being a cheap material, I decided to do some research and begin to build a set in Photoshop by compositing and altering images found off the internet. On the left you'll see a base frame, on the right I added in some fabric to see what it would look like with a white backdrop.
Early on, I knew I wanted to incorporate projections into this set and having a completely blank room to project in was going to be ideal. Since I needed the set to be able to fit a person inside, I planned to purchase 10, six foot sections of 3/4" PVC. This would create a 6'x6' cube. When it came to selecting the fabric to be used on the walls, I had to find something seamless. First, I considered ordering multiple sets of California King sized bed sheets, but ended up ordering 6'x10' photo backdrops because of the difference in cost. Below you'll see photos of me working on a 4'x4' model.
Flooring was something that was quite difficult to figure out. Finding something that was 6'x6' was not only difficult to transport & store but also very expensive. I ended up purchasing five, 2'x4' sheets of white board and a roll of white duct tape to hide the seams of the white boards. I wasn't too sure how everything would look together until shoot day, so I was a little nervous as I assembled everything together. Below you'll be able to see pictures and steps of the overall setup of the set.
